WWCS 2019 will take place at the Fian Hotel in Zakopane, Poland. The exact address is Chałubińskiego 38, 34-500 Zakopane. Accommodation will be provided by the very same hotel in double and triple rooms. You will sleep, eat breakfast, listen to the lectures and work on a project in a 50m range. Convenient, isn’t it? 😉
As the nearest airport is in Cracow, we will organize a bus transport from Cracow to the venue on Monday morning. The exact meeting place will be given later. Also, if you want to arrive to Cracow already on Sunday, we will organize a meeting for participants in the evening with possible sightseeing. And if you want to spend some more time in Cracow, check out this alternative guide to the city.
Coming to Cracow
The easiest way to reach Cracow from other countries is by flights to Cracow Airport. There are a lot of airlines flying to this airport including couple of popular budget ones like easyJet, Ryanair, Vuealing, Eurowings. It’s easy to get from the airport to the city center, Uncle Google knows the way, it’s also described on the airport website.
Depending on your location, you might also consider coming to one of the Warsaw airports – the bigger Chopin Airport with more long-distance connections, or more remote Modlin Airport with cheaper rates. If you chose Warsaw, the best way to get to Cracow is either by train or by bus. Since all of the organizers are based in Warsaw, you can contact us, maybe we can go to Cracow together! 🙂
Here you can check if you need a visa to enter Poland, probably you don’t, but double check just to be sure. It’s better to start the procedure early.
Zakopane and Tatra Mountains
Zakopane is often called Winter Capital of Poland. It is the most well known city in the region of Tatra Mountains. Apparently, WWCS 2019 is going to be the first event in the series with actual winter conditions. This might be obvious, but better to be said. In Tatra Mountains there is a lot of snow in February with average temperature around -5°C. If you don’t want to miss any outdoor social activities, better take some warm clothes with you. More useful information about Zakopane can be found here and here. After a hard scientific work remember to try pierogi (polish dumplings) and oscypek (regional cheese).
